Senior Congress Leader Janardan Dwivedi Defies Party’s Stance, Welcomes Abrogation Of Article 370

Senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi on Monday (5 August) welcomed the Centre’s decision to scrap Article 370 and said that a mistake of history has been corrected in doing so, reports Asian News International (ANI).
Dwivedi clarified though that he was not speaking on behalf of his party and that he was giving his personal opinion. However, he e confidence that the legislation would surely be passed in the Lok Sabha today.
"Ram Manohar Lohia ji under whom I had political training was always against this Article. A mistake of history has been corrected today, albeit late," Dwivedi was quoted in the report as saying.
Dwivedi clarified though that he was not speaking on behalf of his party and that he was giving his personal opinion. However, he asserted that the legislation would surely be passed in the Lok Sabha today.
He said, in the end, the only issue of contention could be the issue of Union Territory status for Jammu and Kashmir. Though here again, Dwivedi expressed confidence that the issue won't be a hurdle for development of the region.
