Sensitive political files have gone missing from Local Government Department soon after controversial minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was shifted to the power ministry and his eventual resignation, The Tribune has reported.

These missing files include ones related to an alleged Rs 1,144 crore Ludhiana City Centre scam, unauthorised construction on agricultural land plot in Ishar Nagar, priority works by the Mehraj Nagar Panchayat and entertainment tax by municipal bodies.

After the matter came to light, an inquiry has been initiated to try and trace them. In case the officials fail to retrieve them, the files then would be attempted to be reconstructed or a complaint would be lodged in the matter.

Government officers have also been asked to contact Sidhu to ascertain whether some files are still with him. They though were unable to contact him despite several attempts.

Sidhu had recently tendered his resignation all ministerial posts in the Punjab government but Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is yet to take a call on the application.
