Thiruvananthapuram MP and Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's remarks, made on Twitter after the death of former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, have received widespread condemnation.
Tharoor had said that Musharraf had become a 'real force for peace between 2002 and 2007.' He added that he found Musharraf to be 'smart', 'engaging' and 'clear' in his strategic thinking.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders quickly pointed out that Musharraf was the brain behind the Kargil War that derailed the peace process started by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at the Lahore Summit in 1999.
They added that this was yet another example of the 'Pakistan-Prem' of the Congress.
According to many political commentators, Tharoor could at the most have extended basic diplomatic courtesies, instead of writing what seemed like a 'tribute' to Musharraf.
