After withdrawing and then agreeing to hold it, United State President Donald Trump has confirmed that the planned summit with North Korea is back again, reports The Wall Street Journal. Trump on Friday met North Korean General Kim Yong Chol – currently sanctioned by the United States Department of Treasury for his role in cyber attacks against American firms – who received a special exemption to travel to Washington DC and personally deliver a letter from Kim Jong-Un.

The letter from Kim reportedly expresses his desire to carry forward with the planned summit in Singapore this month.

Trump had last month pulled out of the summit following a North Korean communique that warned the United States of serious consequences, calling it ‘openly hostile’ and angry. This was the first time that a North Korean official visited the Oval Office in 18 years.

Due to General Kim’s suspected role in a 2010 sinking of a South Korean warship killing 46 people, access to the press was restricted as members of the Secret Service guarded the White House during the 70 minute meeting.
