At least six border troopers, including a Deputy Inspector General, were injured in a gunfight with a group of infiltrators from Pakistan near the International Border in Jammu on Tuesday (29 November), the state police said.

A police officer said the six men from the Border Security Force (BSF) were injured when an ammunition dump caught fire and exploded during the gunfight. The six severely wounded troopers included DIG B S Kasana and Special Operation Group Inspector Sarabjit Singh.

The gunfight raged on in Samba, some 40 km south of Jammu, after the infiltrators attacked a BSF post near the International Border. Two militants have been killed in the shootout that was still underway.
