Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has said that it aims to conduct workshops to train and educate small-medium business owners and entrepreneurs (SMEs) on how to use WhatsApp Business app to help them connect with their customers.

CII said that through its SME Technology Facilitation Centre, it aims to give countrywide on-ground training to entrepreneurs and teach them the features on the app. They can also attend training webinars to help get familiar and grow their businesses.

According to an economic survey, 70 per cent of these SMEs said that they built their business in the platform, while 78 per cent said their business increased due to Whatsapp Business.

Neerja Bhatia, executive director, CII, said they hoped to summate different upgraded and latest technologies from their multiple large technology partners, with an aim to enhance access to technology for Indian SMEs and create technical literacy amongst them.

Ben Supple, an official from WhatsApp, said small businesses are at the heart of India’s economic engine growth, reported Economic Times.

WhatsApp Business app was launched in January 2018 to create an official presence for SMEs and develop their relationships with customers. Already, three million-plus people use it.

WhatsApp and CII will develop content to be distributed among entrepreneurs both in physical and digital formats, with workshops for CII members across the states to understand the support offered. The partnership starts on 29 October with training in Pune.
