Solving CBSE’s Curriculum Overload? NCERT To Cut Syllabus By 15 Per Cent From Academic Year 2019

In a bid to achieve its aim to cut-down school curriculum, the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has decided to reduce textbook content by 10 to 15 per cent from the upcoming academic year 2019-20, reports Hindustan Times.
The plan to reduce textbook content is part of HRD Ministry’s rationalisation exercise undertaken to relieve youngsters from curriculum overload.
"The target is to achieve a 50 per cent reduction of the 'curriculum overload' without affecting the learning outcomes,” said Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, chairing a NCERT general council meeting.
“Curriculum will be reviewed to ensure holistic education in which there will be time for physical education, value education, life-skills education and experiential learning. We have decided to reduce the curriculum by 50 per cent. This year, there will be a 10-15 per cent reduction. The target will be achieved by 2021,” Javadekar was quoted as saying.
Javadekar had, in the past said that by removing duplication and redundant portions, the NCERT would be able to bring down its curriculum significantly.
