Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar (Twitter)
Just a day after the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust extended the invitation to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the construction of the grand Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s Ayodhya, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar tried to pass a jibe on the development, reports Indian Express.
The veteran politician, whose party is a part of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition of three parties in the State of Maharashtra, tried to link the development with the handling of COVID-19 pandemic.
Pawar said, "Eradication of COVID-19 is the priority of the Maharashtra government, but some people think constructing a temple will help in its mitigation."
Pawar made the comment while in Maharashtra's Solapur in response to a question about the proposed date for laying of the foundation stone for the temple building.
The trust which was instituted to build the temple in line with the Supreme Court's order, it had suggested 3 August or 5 August as the two possible dates for holding the auspicious foundation laying ceremony based on the calculation of the movement of stars and planets.
