Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar laid the foundation stone for the state's nineteenth medical college on Sunday (23 December). At a cost of Rs 500 crore, the medical college will be constructed on 80.63 acres of land in Koriyawas village in Narnaul, NDTV has reported.

Khattar, addressing a ‘Jan Vikas’ rally in Mahendragarh, said that the government plans to set up at least one medical college in each of the 22 districts of state. He said construction of the medical college in Narnaul would be completed within 24 months.

The Chief Minister, describing the ordeal of the residents of the area, said the locals have to travel nearly 100-150 km in order to avail medical treatment. He said construction of medical college would not only provide better healthcare facilities to the local residents but also bring employment opportunities.

He said that, in addition to the medical college, a 500-bed hospital would also be constructed. Every year 100 students would get admission in MBBS courses in the medical college, he added.

Khattar also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth about Rs 136 crore. He also announced development projects for Nangal Chaudhary, Ateli and Narnaul assembly constituencies.

Khattar said his government was working for the development of the region which has lagged due to improper water distribution.
