Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla (@ombirlakota/Twitter)
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday (5 March) suspended seven Congress MPs from the lower house for the remainder of the current budget session over charges of gross misconduct.
These seven Congress MPs have been identified as Gaurav Gogoi, T N Prathapan, Dean Kuriakose, R Unnithan, Manickam Tagore, Benny Behnan and Gurjeet Singh Aujla.
As per reports, the speaker took this decision after the MPs first tore sheets of paper in the well of the house and then threw it at the speaker’s chair.
Similarly six Congress leaders were also suspended in the Lok Sabha in 2017 “for willful unbecoming conduct causing grave disorder and undermining the dignity of house”.
Congress’ leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury though refused to accept the suspension and claimed that the party will continue to agitate against the Narendra Modi led central government.
