Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath in a letter written to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has requested to allot a piece of land to Uttar Pradesh government near Sardar Patel’s Statue of Unity so that the Yogi government could construct a grand Uttar Pradesh Bhawan there, Press Trust of India has reported.

When complete it would be the world’s tallest statue.

According to a senior UP government official, in the letter which was written two weeks ago, Yogi has requested his Gujarat counterpart to allot UP a piece of land in the Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat complex near the statue of Unity in order to build a grand Uttar Pradesh Bhawan.

Yogi also praised Gujarat CM for his proposal of allotment of land to various state governments in the vicinity of the statue so that states can build their pavillions under the complex.

"I congratulate you for this... I would like to inform you that I had taken an initiative in this regard and had requested for allotment of the piece of land," the Uttar Pradesh chief minister wrote in the letter.

Uttar Pradesh CM requested his Gujarat counterpart to inform UP government regarding allotment of the land so that construction could be started there on a priority basis.

"The allotment of land to UP depends upon the availability of land (there). A world-class memorial on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is being constructed there. The UP Bhawan would facilitate tourists coming from Uttar Pradesh in their visit to the Statue of Unity," added the official.

Rupani, on 9 September, said that the statue, a tribute to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of the first home minister of India.
