Stringent UAPA Invoked Against Bengaluru Rioters, Link To Terror Group Al Hind Emerges

Bengaluru Police have invoked various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in the recent case of rioting in DJ Halli in the tech capital.

In a bid to take stringent action against those who resorted to violence as an alleged reaction to a social media post, the Karnataka Police have decided to invoke the UAPA, even though the original FIR only included various sections of the IPC and Prevention of damages to Public Property act.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said the act 'that deals with terrorism and related activities will be invoked whenever necessary,' as quoted.

The Special investigation team which has been formed to probe the case is also contemplating the invocation of the Goonda act.

This comes in the light of the arrest of Samiuddin who is said to allegedly have links with the city based suspected terror group Al Hind. As per reports he is currently being interrogated by the Anti Terror Cell of the Central Crime Branch to ascertain his links with and his role in Al hind.

Al Hind has been in the news since March this year when the NIA investigations and raids across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka showed that Bengaluru was the ‘centre’ chosen by the 10 terror accused who were arrested for plotting attacks at various locations across the country.

According to the NIA report, the conspiracy was hatched by the accused in Bengaluru after August 2019 to "procure weapons and material to establish a base in the forests of south India for waging violent jihad in India".

The Al-Hind Trust was used by the accused as the premise to plan all these anti-national activities. The trust was used as a front to carry out nefarious activities.
