Stubble Burning Instances Decline By Over 19 Per Cent From 2018 With Uttar Pradesh Registering Maximum Reduction

In a major development towards curbing the practice of stubble burning in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh (UP), the instances of burning the farm residue have come down by 19.2 per cent when compared to 2018 levels, reports The Economic Times.
The figure was placed before the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Environment, Babul Supriyo who also shared that when compared to 2017 and 2016 levels, the instances of stubble burning in 2018 had come down by as much as 15 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively.
Of the three States, maximum amount of reduction in stubble burning has been reported in Uttar Pradesh where the figures were as much as 36.8 per cent lower than those recorded in 2018 till November.
Meanwhile, the States of Punjab and Haryana have been reported to have witnessed a reduction of about 16.8 per cent and 25.1 per cent, respectively, in the present season.
