Self driving Tesla car (@28delayslater/twitter)
Tesla users across the globe have completed a humungous one billion auto pilot assisted miles, tweeted Tesla. The total autopilot assisted miles accounts to 10 per cent of the total miles driven by all Tesla cars. CEO Elon Musk sees the future in ‘Full Self-Driving’ cars.
Meanwhile continuing their research and development, today cars are shipped with basic autopilot features such as Automatic emergency braking, front collision warning and side collision warning.
With an additional $5,000 Tesla’s can be upgraded with to the ‘Enhanced Autopilot’ feature in which the car can steer, brake and accelerate through almost any traffic lane. It can also navigate on most highways, and can navigate to interchanges and exits.
Tesla follows the strategy of shipping cars with necessary hardware for fully self-driving cars with over-the-air software updates that unlock new features day by day.
Responding to a post by Tesla customer who used the summon feature of Tesla to board his car, Musk cheered with a retweet about the functioning of the summon feature.
The feature allows the customer to park and retrieve the car by controlling through Tesla’s mobile app.
Musk added “In a few years it can be summoned across the continents”, hinting at the self-driving features.
