Supreme Court Finally Finds Time For Ram Temple Case: Sets 4 January As Hearing Date, Three-Judge Bench Likely

Supreme Court (SC) will hear the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case on 4 January. The matter, according to the cause list, is listed before the SC bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice SK Kaul, The New Indian Express has reported.

According to the report, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), in a bid to resolve Ram temple issue, has been pushing for an early hearing in the matter. A three judge bench is likely to be constituted for hearing as many as 14 appeals that were filed against the Allahabad (now Prayagraj) High Court.

The High Court in its judgement, delivered in four civil suits, partitioned the 2.77 acre land among three parties - Ram Lalla, Nirmohi Akhara and the Sunni Waqf Board.

The Ramjanmabhoomi case has been pending with the apex court for eight years. Outfits like Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and VHP have been demanding that government should take legislative path to solve the issue.

The head of the RSS, Mohan Bhagwat, in his annual Vijayadashmi address in October had said, "The construction of the temple is necessary from the self-esteem point of view, it will also pave the way for an atmosphere of goodwill and oneness in the country."

Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti (ABSS), an umbrella organisation of more than 3,000 Hindu religious figures, also demanded that a law should be passed for construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
