The protectors of the Indian borders along Bangladesh, Border Security Force (BSF), has recorded a substantial increase in the outflow of illegal Bangladeshi citizens to their home countries following the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), reports Economic Times.

"There has been substantial increase in outflow of illegal Bangladeshi migrants to the bordering country in last one month.... In January alone, we had apprehended 268 illegal Bangladeshi migrants, most of whom were trying to sneak into the neighbouring country," BSF Inspector General (South Bengal Frontier) Y B Khurania was quoted as saying in the report.

The surge is being attributed to the rise of fear among the illegal immigrants from the neighbouring nation post the notification of Citizenship Amendment Act which came into force on 10 January.

The legislation of the Act had received the Parliament's nod on 11 December, following which it received the President Ram Nath Kovind's assent a day later on 12 December.
