Ajay Bhatt and Harish Rawat.
The interesting story emerging from Uttarakhand is from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar constituency. Here, Ajay Bhatt, who was considered a "fairly new" candidate in BJP's tally of five, is fighting against Congress veteran Harish Rawat. As per the last update, he was leading by 1,32,996 votes.
Throughout their campaign in Uttarakhand, workers of BJP, voters and supporters of the saffron party were heard saying that they are not sure of one seat in the tally. Even Modi magic, many supporters expressed in the state, would not work in Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar. Bhatt, though, has been confident of winning. He continues to register a quick lead.
Interestingly, some exit polls have been putting BJP's count at 4, instead of all 5.
The Kumaon-Garhwal sentiment has taken a back seat this Lok Sabha election, and in the larger pahadi sentiment, Uttarakhand and BJP are witnessing its support moving towards Modi, the larger Hindu sentiment, and nationalism. Ajay Bhatt seems to be in a good position as of now. BJP is leading in all five seats.
