Suryaputra: India Now Produces 30 GW Of Solar Energy; Accounts For 38 Per Cent Share Among Renewables

Underscoring India’s commitment to expanding the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix, solar energy projects in the country now produce a whopping 30 GW of power as per preliminary estimates, reports Mercer.
According to India Solar Project Tracker, the share of solar energy grew from 6.6 per cent in March (2018) to 8.4 per cent in March (2019), a jump of 1.8 per cent in just twelve months.
The share of solar energy in the total renewable energy capacity in the country now stands at around 38 per cent, surging by 2 per cent from the previous quarter.
Renewable energy capacity additions continue at a brisk pace in India, and at the end of FY19, approximately 22.3 per cent of India’s total capacity (358 GW) came from clean energy sources (80 GW). This represents a massive jump from the previous 20.3 per cent share recorded at the end of FY18.
‘Renewed’ energy
Continuing the trend, India is expected to add 15,860 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity in the current year (2019), up by fifty per cent from last year.
Also according to the Climatescope Report 2018, India jumped three places to rank second in the world in terms of overall improvement in the deployment of renewable energy.
