US Secret Service agents clearing the package.
A suspicious package that was found near Pennsylvania Avenue close to the White House, just two blocks away from the place where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was staying, was cleared by the Secret Service agents.
The Lafayette Park and the north fence line of the White House were closed for investigation. The agency was prompt in addressing the situation as Modi, who was in the United States on the second leg of his three-nation tour, left for Amsterdam after meeting President Donald Trump at the White House.
Earlier in the day, US security agencies had made special arrangements to secure the hotel in which the Prime Minister was staying. Multiple trucks, with their trolleys full of sand, were lined parallel to the outer walls of the hotel to secure the area. All adjoining streets were closed for regular traffic.
