Indore was declared as the cleanest city according to Swachh Survekshan 2017.

Maintaining its grip on the top and coveted position, the city of Indore has been ranked as the cleanest city in all of India for the fourth time in a row, reports The Times of India.

Meanwhile, the metropolis of Kolkata and Howrah, both located in West Bengal have found place at the bottom of the ranks, being the least clean cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.

The ranks have come out as Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri released on Tuesday (31 December) the quarterly Swachhata survey. The quarterly survey aims to ensure that cities and municipal authorities continue taking steps to improve sanitation and cleanliness year round rather than focusing on only a few months to improve the annual ranking.

The latest round of the survey witnessed participation from a total of 4,372 cities which includes municipalities with population in the range of less than 25,000 and over 10 lakh.
