Food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy has collaborated with Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML) to set up an electric vehicles (EVs) ecosystem to further its objective of shifting to EVs and thus cut down the costs of operating its vehicles by 40 per cent by 2025.
Swiggy will use its alliance with RBML to establish battery-swapping stations for its delivery partners across the country.
Once a battery is pre-charged entirely, it will facilitate a commute of about 65-80 kilometres. The new facility will also enable a quick turnaround time with a single battery swap taking less than five minutes, ensuring that the company delivers its orders in time.
Swiggy has already sealed tie-ups with e-cycle manufacturer Hero Lectro and last-mile delivery network Fast Despatch Logistics to expedite the implementation of its initiative to supply orders via cargo e-cycles.
Trials of the same have already commenced in New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru so far.
“Transitioning to EVs is an important step in this direction. It will have a positive impact not only on the environment but also empower our delivery partners to earn more,” Swiggy CEO Sriharsha Majety quipped in an official statement from the company.
The company aims to cover around eight lakh kilometres daily via EVs by the target year of 2025, reports Money Control.
