The Tablighi Jamaat’s transgressions are hampering India’s fight against coronavirus pandemic.

Mincing no words Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said the Tablighis who misbehaved with nurses at the MMG Government hospital in Ghaziabad shall not be spared.

“Neither will they obey the law not the system. They are enemies of humanity. What they did with women health workers is a heinous crime. They will be charged under the NAS. We will not spare them” said as reported.

Medical staff at the Ghaziabad hospital had complained to the Chief Medical Superintendent(CMS) on Wednesday (1 April) that "many Jamaat members admitted in the isolation ward of the hospital were misbehaving with the employees and the nursing staff".

A joint probe by the Ghaziabad police chief and Additional District Magistrate has been ordered after the CMS took up the matter in writing with the Chief Medical officer, Senior Superintendent of Police and the District Magistrate Yesterday.

The Jamaat members admitted at the hospital were accused of roaming around semi-nude in front of female nursing staff and singing obscene songs, and demanding tobacco and cigarettes.

Earlier today, Yogi AdItyanath had also directed officials to take strict action, including under the National Security Act (NSA), against those who attack police and other officials in Uttar Pradesh.

A total of 569 coronavirus suspects related directly or indirectly to the Tablighi Jamaat have been quarantined in Uttar Pradesh until Wednesday. Of these 218 are foreign nationals, the rest are caretakers and other staff of mosques where Markaz Tablighi Jamaat followers were said to be in hiding.
