India conceptualised International Solar Alliance (ISA) will be holding the first-ever World Solar Technology Summit on 8 September, in a bid to bring together scientists, engineers and member nations of ISA to sit together and deliberate upon the challenges in realising the dream of making energy affordable and abundant to all, reports Economic Times.

The ISA was launched by India in association with France in 2015, to form an alliance of nations which are rich in sunshine received. The launch had taken place on the sidelines of the Paris meeting of the climate change.

It should be noted that it’s only been about a year and a half since the Gurugram-headquartered ISA began to function in a full-fledged way with adequate member count, and the alliance already has projects worth $1.4 billion tied up in different stages of construction.

India is leading the ISA with the vision of pushing the adoption of solar energy. It alone has set the target of setting up a capacity to produce massive 100 GW of solar energy by 2022.

Since the announcement of the goal in 2015 by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, the national capacity of solar power generation has increased several-fold.
