Tamil Nadu coronavirus cases rise.
A record 771 persons tested positive for novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) today (6 May) in Tamil Nadu, taking the total number of cases to 4,829.
Two more deaths Covid-19 deaths were reported, taking the total to 35 in the State.
Going by the current trend, where over 2,000 have tested positive for the pandemic virus in the last four days, the numbers could top 5,000 tomorrow (7 May). In the last three days, over 500 positive cases have been reported on a daily basis.
The State government’s daily press release said that “a large number of today’s cases are linked to (the) Koyambedu market”.
Chennai reported 324 cases, taking the total number in the capital to 2,328. Apart from Chennai, Ariyalur district reported 188 Covid-19 positive cases.
Cuddalore district had 95 persons testing positive for the pandemic virus, making it the district with the second-highest numbers.
Ariyalur with the huge positive cases is the third-most affected district in Tamil Nadu.
Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Villupuram, and a few other districts have Coronavirus cases traced to Chennai’s principal vegetable, fruits and flower market in Koyambedu.
Chennai’s Koyambedu market has become a super-spreader with Tamil Nadu’s Covid-19 cases doubling in nine days due to infection being spread from its premises. (Read details here.)
With the Koyambedu market turning out to be super-spreader, Tamil Nadu has increased the number of those being tested since 1 May. Today, 13,281 more persons were tested, taking the total number of those tested to over 1.78 lakh.
So far, 1,516 persons have recovered from the pandemic virus.
