Tamil Nadu coronavirus cases rise.

Tamil Nadu today (4 May) reported its highest novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases yet with 527 testing positive for the pandemic virus.

Two reasons are being attributed to the State reporting higher numbers over the last couple of days. One is that the number of persons being tested has increased. The second reason is that Chennai’s primary vegetable, fruits and vegetables market has emerged as another major vector of Coronavirus.

Today, the Tamil Nadu Government said in its daily press release that the positive cases were out of a total of 12,863 persons screened for Covid-19.

Yesterday, the State reported 266 positive cases after 10,584 persons were screened.

Apart from Chennai, which has reported 48.5 per cent of the total Coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts have emerged as districts with higher number of Covid-19 cases.

Today, Cuddalore reported 122 and Villupuram 49 Coronavirus positive cases. In addition, Perambalur reported 25 Covid-19 cases.

Media reports said that workers and traders returning to districts such as Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Ariyalur from the Chennai’s Koyambedu market had tested positive for Covid-19.

Though the State Government has not provided details on the sources of infection, the Koyambedu vegetables and fruits market is feared to have been the source for over 250 persons till now.

This includes Chennai where 1,724 persons have tested positive for Covid-19 till now. However, one heartening feature of Tamil Nadu’s Coronavirus cases is that 1,409 persons have recovered so far.

The press release said that 1.62 lakh persons have been screen so far in the State with results of another 862 being awaited. Tamil Nadu has reported 31 deaths due to Covid-19.
