Tamil Nadu’s 20 “Aadeenams” Invited For Parliament Building Inauguration

Twenty Tamil Nadu "aadeenams" have been invited for the inauguration of the new Parliament building on 28 May, said Nirmala Sitharaman.
The symbolic "Sengol" will be installed in the new premises, as had been done in 1947 to represent the power shift from the British.
The Finance Minister spoke at a press conference with the Governors of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Nagaland.
She said Tamil Nadu played a "big proud part" in transferring power from the British to India in 1947 with the presentation of the Sengol (sceptre) to prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
C Rajagopalachary had spoken with the Tiruvavduthurai adheenam, on whose advice the sceptre was subsequently handed over to Nehru, after consultation with India's first prime minister.
PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on 28 May, and 20 'aadeenams' from Tamil Nadu, such as Tiruvavaduthurai, Perur, and Madurai, have been invited to the event.
‘Aadeenam’ in Tamil means a Shaivite monastery and its leader.
“The pontiffs will attend the event. There will be Oduvars (scholars in Shaivite scriptures and hymns) who will recite the Thevaram. In 1947 also, the Sengol was handed over to Nehru when othuvargal recited Kolaru Pathigam,” Sitharaman said.
The same Sengol, symbolising "governance with justice and without any bias," will be installed with reverence near the Lok Sabha Speaker's chair.
