TCS Helps India Post Operate World’s Largest Distributed e-Postal Network; Will Support Five Lakh Employees

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is undertaking one of the largest SAP implementations globally by modernising 1.5 Lac Post Offices. The project worth Rs 1,100 crores is a multi-year initiative that will help the Department of Posts (DoP) modernise its services end to end.
The project awarded to TCS in 2013 has already seen the integration of the front-end Point of Sale (PoS) solution across 24000 post offices with over 80,000 PoS terminals supported by a web portal with consignment tracking ability and a multi-lingual call centre for customers.
The project once completed will support five lakh employees and services to 40000 concurrent users, processing over three million postal transactions a day. The project aims to transform DoP through its nationwide reach in providing financial services to citizens from remote areas.
In a statement release, TCS said, "At the heart of this transformation is the Core System Integration (CSI) program designed and implemented by TCS. This involved deploying an integrated ERP solution that caters to mail operations, finance and accounting, and HR functions, and connects its vast network of more than 1.5 lakh post offices, making this the largest distributed e-postal network in the world.”
The project also to arm 1.3 lakh Garmin Dak Sevaks with DARPAN 1 handheld devices which will be used to provide postal, banking , insurance and cash management services in remote villages. These devices will work even without network connectivity.
