Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy on 23 July apprised the Parliament that terror attacks in the hinterland have come down by 70 per cent while reducing by a whopping 86 per cent in the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the last decade due to government’s zero tolerance policy, reports Asian News International (ANI).

The information was given by MoS Reddy in a reply to a question raised by the Congress MP from Punjab, Manish Tewari. He had sought information from the Ministry of Home Affairs whether the number of terror attacks has substantially reduced during the period between April 2009 and June 2019 as compared to the decade before that.

"Terror attacks in the hinterland during the last decade as compared to the previous decade have reduced by 70 per cent from 71 to 21 and the number of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir has reduced by 86 per cent, from 23,290 to 3187," Reddy said.

The minister also informed the Parliament that compared to the corresponding period of 2018, the first half of the ongoing year has witnessed a 28 per cent decline in the terror attacks.

"Forces have been taking effective and continuous action in countering terrorism," he added.
