The ongoing civic polls in Maharashtra have thrown up interesting results for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena alliance. Of the 2,501 seats for which results have been declared, the BJP has won 610 seats while the Shiv Sena has won 402. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Indian National Congress have won 482 and 408 seats respectively, said an ANI report.

In spite of the opposition’s claim that the ruling party would lose big in the elections - because of the hardships thrust on people by demonetisation, the BJP has retained public favour. The party had won three to four Municipal Chairman posts in the last elections in 2011, and has managed to bag 40 this time.

The Congress and NCP too have made gains, at the cost of National Democratic Alliance ally, Shiv Sena. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has managed to win only 12 seats while the Bahujan Samaj Party has won four.
