The Minister for Food Processing and Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal and The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will be attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan.

The invite to the groundbreaking ceremony was extended to Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh. Swaraj wrote back to Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and thanked him for this gesture. Swaraj, however, didn’t accept the invitation to the ceremony due to prior commitments.

“Being mindful of the sentiments of our Sikh citizens and the importance of facilitating their smooth and easy access to holy Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib, we will be sending Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Minister for Food Processing and Industries, and Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, as the Government of India’s representatives for the event planned for 28 November, ” Swaraj said in her letter, as reported by Livemint.

On 22 November, both countries announced that they would be building the Kartarpur corridor on their respective side, which will link Dera Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan with Gurdaspur, Punjab, India. The corridor is expected to act as a bridge between the peoples of India and Pakistan.
