Ace Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana (Instagram)
ICC’s woman cricketer of the year Smriti Mandhana has brushed off the equal pay narrative in her sports by saying that the day women’s cricket begins generating the same revenue as men’s cricket, she will be the first one to start demanding equal pay.
As reported by Press Trust of India, Mandhana said that one needs to understand that the majority of the revenue in the sports comes from men’s cricket and until the share becomes equal one is not eligible to demand equal pay.
“We need to understand that the revenue which we get is through men’s cricket. The day women’s cricket starts getting revenue, I will be the first person to say that we need the same thing. But right now, we can’t say that”, Mandhana was quoted as saying.
She added that no women cricketer is currently bothered about equal pay and their focus remains on winning more matches for India.
