Indian Universities Make A Global Mark, Claim 49 Places In The List Of Top 400

The annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings threw up some welcome news for India as 49 universities from the country found mention in the list of top 400 global varsities. This is an improvement from last year when 42 Indian varsities found mention in the top 400.
While the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, maintained its numero uno position among Indian varsities figuring in the top 400, the surprise package was the Indian Institute of Technology, Indore, which made its debut as the second best Indian university. IIT-Indore scored especially in the areas of research volume and impact and in the process displaced its illustrious counterpart IIT-Bombay which slipped from the 351-400 rank band to the 401-500 rank band.
Some of the new Indian entrants in this elite list of top global universities are the IITs located in Bhubaneshwar and Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Pune and Kolkata and Andhra Pradesh’s Acharya Nagarjuna University.
Oxford University topped the global rankings for the third year in a row, with Cambridge University and United States’ Stanford University bringing up the top three.
