The Real Googly? ICC Panel Orders Pakistani Cricket Body To Pay 60 Per Cent Of Legal Expenses Incurred By BCCI

After the International Cricket Council (ICC) dismissed Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) compensation case filed against the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), the Dispute Resolution Panel, on 19 December, has ordered the Pakistani cricket body to pay 60 per cent (approximately $2 million) of the legal costs incurred by the BCCI while presenting its case, reports Crickbuzz.
"The PCB should pay 60 per cent of the BCCI's claimed costs, the administrative costs and expenses of the panel, the fees of the tribunal members, and the costs and expenses they incurred concerning this matter, the figure of which is to be supplied to PCB by the ICC", the dispute resolution panel noted.
"For the BCCI, to be deprived of all its costs would appear to the panel to be inappropriate," the panel was quoted by Cricbuzz.
The issue arose on the backdrop of India refusing to play any bilateral cricket with Pakistan due to political tension and the lack of government clearance, despite the MoU being signed.
The PCB had claimed a Rs 447 Crore compensation from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after accusing them of not honouring the commitments. However, the case was dismissed by ICC.
The BCCI, as an ordinary course of action in most arbitration cases, had stated that they would approach the governing body to recover legal costs it had incurred while presenting its case before the panel.
