Third Road Link To Ladakh Nears Completion Amid Tensions With China; To Cut Down Travel Time By Six To Seven Hours

Amid the ongoing tensions between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has almost completed the work on a third major strategic road in the region, connecting Nimmu to Darcha via Padam, reports ANI.
The new road link gains significance as it will provide the security forces untraceable connectivity, unlike the existing Srinagar-Kargil-Leh and Manali-Sarchu-Leh roads which run close to areas under occupation of Pakistan and China, enabling the enemies to keep a watch on troop movements.
Furthermore, the 258-kilometres-long road will save the troops a lot of time. The commute, the report says, would now come down to just six-seven hours. Earlier, it took troops almost 12 to 14 hours to reach Leh.
Additionally, this road will remain open and operational for 10-11 months due to its low altitude, unlike the other two roads which stay open only for about six-seven months, closing down for a six-months-long period starting November.
The road is completely ready for heavy vehicles weighing multiple tonnes of load, except for a 30-kilometres-long stretch to make up for which diversion has been established to another road.
