Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has been appointed the new president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (Delhi PCC) after Ajay Maken resigned due to ill-health, the Economic Times reported on Thursday (10 January).
The in-charge of Delhi unit of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), PC Chacko, made the announcement and said that Devender Yadav, Haroon Yusuf and Rajej Lilotia would assist her as working presidents.
Chacko also said they had no talks within the Delhi’s unit regarding collaboration with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and they were entirely prepared to contest the 2019 parliamentary elections all by themselves.
Maken also heaped praise on Dikshit, saying that under the former CM’s leadership, the Congress party would be a powerful opposition against both the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government as well as the Narendra Modi-led central government.
