The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, has said that his successor could be found in India, where he has lived for 60 years following China’s occupation of Tibet, news agency Reuters has said in a report.

According to the agency’s report, the spiritual leader has also warned that if China tries to install a successor chosen by the Chinese Communist Party, the choice would not be respected by the Tibetan people around the world.

“In future, in case you see two Dalai Lamas come, one from here, in free country, one chosen by Chinese, then nobody will trust, nobody will respect (the one chosen by China). So that’s an additional problem for the Chinese! It’s possible, it can happen,” the Dalai Lama has been quoted as saying.

“China considers Dalai Lama’s reincarnation as something very important. They have more concern about the next Dalai Lama than me,” he added.

This development comes just days after China blocked the listing of Pakistan-based terrorist and Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar’s listing as a global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council. Beijing’s decision to block the listing, which did not come as a surprise, had caused much anger in India. This was the fourth time since 2009 that China blocked Azhar’s listing.
