In an aftermath of India banning Chinese short-video application TikTok, the platform's downloads growth has slowed down to a measly two per cent globally in the bygone month of September, reports Economic Times.

This is a major fall compared to the 85 per cent growth achieved by the platform in the first six months of the year on year. However, despite the massive fall in downloads, TikTok remained the most downloaded application worldwide. The numbers were made public by app analytics firm Sensor Tower.

It should be noted that India was TikTok's largest market until the ban was imposed on it three months ago. There were a total of 659.5 million downloads of the platform, accounting for 30 per cent of its global downloads.

The application was banned by the Government in a large crackdown on multiple Chinese applications on account of national security and data integrity threats posed by them. These also included WeChat which is backed by Chinese technology major Tencent.
