Trinamool candidate Satabdi Roy campaigning in Birbhum.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Satabdi Roy on Wednesday (4 September) returned the money she had taken as the brand ambassador from Saradha Group, reports The New Indian Express.
The known Bengali actress returned the amount excluding taxes to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Roy was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in July this year for her connection with the in-famous Rs 10,000 crore Saradha chit fund scam. Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’ Brien had also appeared before the central agency last month.
Roy has become the second TMC leader after former TMC Rajya Sabha MP and Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty to return the money received from Saradha. He had returned Rs 1.16 crore in June 2015 to the ED.
The Saradha chit fund scam was a major ponzi scheme in which thousands of clients lost their savings. Various Trinamool leaders are among the accused in the matter.
