A.G. Pon Manickavel, the Madras High Court-appointed Special Officer of Idol Wing-Criminal Investigation Department (CID), claimed that his team was facing an acute financial crunch, reports The Hindu.

Manickavel has reportedly claimed that the State government did not comply with the court orders to provide necessary funds.

One of his assistants working in the office had not received her salary for the past four months, Manickavel said to the Division Bench of Justices R. Mahadevan and P.D. Audikesavalu.

“We have absolutely no funds. I have so far spent around Rs. 40,000 from my pocket towards fuel expenses. There has been a specific direction in the 30 November judgment of this court to provide funds required for uninterrupted functioning of Idol Wing. Despite that we have not received funds,” the special officer was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

P.H. Arvindh Pandian, Additional Advocate General, said the officer could ventilate his grievances only before the Supreme Court and not the High Court.

The State government had appealed before the Supreme Court challenging Manickavel's appointment as the special officer.

“Let the officer place whatever submissions he wants to make at the Supreme Court instead of ventilating his grievances before this court,” the AAG was quoted as saying in the report.

The judges decided to await the verdict of the Supreme Court before looking into his grievance.
