TN’s Idol Wing Police Interrogate Senior HR&CE Officials Over Loss Of Antiques

The idol wing of the Tamil Nadu police, on Sunday morning, interrogated N Thirumagal, additional commissioner of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) Department, Chennai eveninger News Today has reported.

The police team, headed by Inspector-General Pon Manickavel, questioned Thirumagal at the latter’s residence in Chennai. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar was also part of the team.

The questioning was related to the alleged misappropriation of gold and funds collected for making two idols at the renowned Sri Ekambareswarar temple in Kanchipuram.

The team is also reportedly investigating the disappearance of the statue of a peacock from Kapaleeswarar temple, Mylapore.

Chief sthapathi of the HR&CE, Muthiah, was also questioned by the team recently regarding a statue which went missing in 2004.

The idol wing police claimed that five years into her tenure, Thirumagal, who was tasked with the upkeep of the temple, had not visited the shrine even once.

The idol wing department recently questioned several prominent persons in Chennai including entrepreneurs Ranvir Shah and Kiran Rao. Both face charges of keeping temple idols in their houses.
