To Avoid Contempt Action By Delhi HC, AAP Government Promises To Plant 1.4 Lakh Saplings

After the Delhi High Court warned of issuing a contempt of court order against it for not complying with its directions to plant 1.4 lakh saplings in central ridge area, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi has finally agreed to implement the court's order without any further delay, reports LiveMint.
The Delhi government has now assured the high court that in the first instance, it will be planting 30,000 trees before 15 June and a report of the same with aerial photographs would be filed indicating due compliance.
The development took place after Justice Najmi Waziri underscored that planting only 1,500 trees in 15 weeks after its 11 March order to plant 1.4 lakh saplings of deciduous indigenous variety amounted to "breach" of its direction and warranted "initiation of contempt proceedings" against the officials responsible.
Soon after the session the court was informed that the chief secretary of the Delhi Government had issued the directives for the forest department to comply with the order immediately.
