To Protect Its Domestic Industry, China Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties On Chemical Imports From India, Japan

Ortho-dichlorobenzene (ODCB) imported from India and Japan will now attract anti-dumping duties from China. A new regulation to this effect will come into force from today (23 January), reports Press Trust of India (PTI).
ODCB is a raw material used in the production of chemicals that go into making pesticides, medicines and dyes. The duties will be collected at rates ranging from 31.9 per cent to 70.4 per cent for five years.
“The domestic industry has been subject to substantial damages due to the dumping of these products, the ministry said, in a final ruling after anti-dumping investigations into the imports,” said Xinhua, the state-run Chinese news agency.
“After receiving complaints from the domestic industry, the ministry launched the anti-dumping investigations in January 2018, and a preliminary ruling come forth in October 2018,” it added.

It was reported in November 2018 that the Indian government imposed anti-dumping duties for five years on specific steel products imported from China. The duties will range from $ 44.89 to $185.51 per tonne for the said period. The duties are aimed at protecting the domestic steel industry from cheap Chinese imports.
India has imposed anti-dumping duties on as many as 98 products, including chemicals, imported from China since December 2017.
