In a major twist to the upcoming Telangana state assembly elections, the opposition parties in the state have decided to join hands to ensure the ruling party TRS’ (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) defeat.

According to the Economic Times, the Indian National Congress (INC), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and CPI (Communist Party of India) are forming a grand alliance to take on the K Chandrashekar Rao-led party.

The first round of talks have been reported to have completed, and this will be the first ever time in TDP’s 35-year-old history that it will be holding hands with the Congress in a state election.

Telangana is likely to go to polls in November with Chief Minister KCR, as he is known popularly, having dissolved the assembly last week. All the three parties met the Governor of Telangana, E S L Narasimhan to call for President’s rule. The opposition has claimed that there is not a chance that stands for free elections with KCR being present.C

The state Congress president said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced the schedule for revision of electoral rolls on the first day of September. This process is to be completed by January, without which going to polls will be unfair, they protest.
