Trial Bus Between Bangladesh And Nepal Under BBIN Agreement Reaches India

A trial bus carrying delegates of India, Bangladesh and Nepal from Dhaka to Kathmandu arrived in Phulbari, near Siliguri yesterday (24 April), reports The Times of India. The bus, operated by Kolkata-based Shyamoli Paribahan is part of a trial run between the three nations under the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India Nepal (BBIN) Motor Vehicles Agreement of 2015.
The bus was carrying 25 Bangladeshis, 12 Indians, six Nepalese and an Asian Development Bank (ADB) official. The buses left from Dhaka the day before and will leave for Nepal today.
The trial runs are being conducted to improve road-based connectivity between Nepal and Bangladesh to help businesses and tourism, particularly medical tourism.
The BBIN agreement was signed by the four nations in June 2015 to enable better transport of goods and passengers between them.
Operators say that the proposed route of the bus will straighten the journey, thus reducing the distance by around 100 km.
