The special public prosecutor who was appointed for the case involving the lynching of a tribal man by a mob has been removed by the Kerala government after he reportedly demanded a higher fee.

The 27 year-old Madhu was attacked and killed by a mob in February earlier this year, after being accused of theft. This incident which happened in Attappady, rattled the entire nation, as the mob had taken selfies after tying the victim up and then beating him to death.

The government had appointed Palakkad-based lawyer P Gopinath as the public prosecutor for Madhu but he was dropped after the tiff over his fees as reported by News18.

In addition to making demands to raise his fee, the lawyer reportedly also wanted an office near Mannarkkad court and the assistance of a police officer under the rank of deputy superintendent of police.

As a result, people fear that unavailability of a public prosecutor may result in the culprits not being convicted.
