Nearly two weeks after its release in cinema halls, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior has been made tax free by Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government. The film is based on the life of the legendary Maratha Hindu warrior Tanhai Malusare.
News agency ANI tweeted about the decision by the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
The film directed by Om Raut has been getting good audience response as it is set to cross Rs 200 crore mark at the box office.
Before the decision taken by the state government, Many were surprised that ‘Tanhaji’ that highlights the bravery of Maratha warriors against the Mughal armies has not been made tax free in Maharashtra by the government led by the Shiv Sena, which takes pride in claiming itself the true protector of Maratha and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy.
State’s Revenue Minister from the Congress quota, Balasaheb Thorat, in fact, had demanded the Mughal-era film to be exempted from tax along with Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Chhapaak’ which is based on the life struggle of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Based on Tanhai Malusare’s life and mainly his valiant military leadership during the Battle of Sinhagad, features actors Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles.
