Two teenage Hindu girls belonging to Dharki town of Sindh province in Pakistan were abducted and converted to Islam by force on the eve of Holi, reports TOI. The local police only agreed to lodge an FIR in the case once the Hindu community came out on the streets to protest.

The incident took place even as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan continued pushing his ‘Naya Pakistan’ narrative, recently tweeting, "Naya Pakistan is Quaid's (Jinnah) Pakistan and we will ensure that our minorities are treated as equal citizens, unlike what is happening in India."

The Hindu community in Pakistan has carried out massive demonstrations calling for strict action to be taken against those responsible, while reminding Khan of his promises to the minorities of the country.

The two kidnapped girls are reportedly 13-year-old Raveena and 15-year-old Reena.

There is also a video doing the rounds on social media which shows the two underage girls being married in a ‘nikah’ ceremony, while several of attendees watch.

Pakistan Hindu Sewa Welfare Trust president Sanjesh Dhanja stated that religious minorities in Pakistan suffered from widespread persecution. He mentioned a similar incident which happened earlier in which two other girls from the Hindu community, Komal and Sonia, were kidnapped and converted to Islam by force.
