The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has said that it has taken note of the Indian government’s decision to scrap Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which removed the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir, reports Gulf News.

Dr Ahmad Al Banna, the UAE ambassador to India, said, “We also took note of the introduction of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill in the Indian Parliament aimed at replacing Article 370 with the creation of Ladakh region and the state of Jammu and Kashmir as India’s two new Union Territories.”

Banna said that the reorganisation of states is not a new incident in India, and is aimed at reducing the regional disparity and improving efficiency. He adds that the decision is an internal matter, as stipulated in the Indian Constitution.

The ambassador to India also said that he is optimistic that the move will help improve social and economic conditions and the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

“We expect that the changes would improve social justice and security and confidence of the people in the local governance and will encourage further stability and peace,” he adds.

Further west, the United States State Department on Monday (5 August) said that are following the events in Kashmir closely. “We call on all parties to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Control.” the US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
