Germany's Ambassador to India Walter Lindner on Sunday (8 December) stressing for reforms at the United Nations (UN) pressed for India's inclusion into the powerful UN Security Council as a permanent member, reports Hindustan Times.

Justifying his assertion, Ambassador Lindner said, "India is not there with 1.4 billion people. This is just not acceptable. It has to reflect today's reality. Of course, India has to be there."

Ambassador Lindner also underscored that the people would stop relying on UN if its structure is not reformed as does not reflect the reality of the day. He said, the G4 nations, namely, Brazil, Germany, India and Japan all support each other's inclusion into the UNSC as permanent members.

Stressing that the UN may have its faults and shortcomings, Ambassador Lindner expressed worry over the present structure of the UN and said, "I'm totally in favour of reforming the UN system to make it more credible and acceptable."
