Under Kamalnath Government, Chapter On Kargil War Omitted From Syllabus While Nation Celebrates 20 Years Of Victory

While the nation is set to celebrate 20 years of Indian victory in Kargil on 26 July marked by the ‘Vijay Diwas’, a separate chapter on the war and simultaneous Indian victory will cease to exist in college textbooks in Madhya Pradesh.
The change has been made by a syllabus review committee, setup in the MVM college, after last year’s change in the state government, from BJP to Congress under Chief Minister (CM) Kamalnath, as reported by News18.
MVM college is amongst the oldest and largest colleges in Madhya Pradesh and has a Defence and Strategic Studies department for people enthusiastic about joining the Indian military forces.
A chapter on the 1999 war with Pakistan was part of the syllabus till 2017-18 session reportedly. However, as part of the syllabus review, the chapter has now been omitted and will instead be clubbed with other smaller conflicts in a chapter about proxy wars. The committee has cited the growing length of the syllabus as a reason for the omission.
The opposition BJP has protested the development saying that the change has been done at the behest of the Congress government. The BJP has said that the move is part of the Congress agenda to erase anyone other than the Gandhi family from the nation’s history.
